Shannon launched his career in finance, where he gained extensive experience in banking and managing collection agencies. It was then he developed vital skip tracing and research skills that would later prove invaluable as a genetic genealogist.

His own life was dramatically changed when a DNA test revealed a long‑secret family history, opening up a connection between his biological father and unexplained crimes.
